C is for Chicago

I am in Chicago for the next few days attending the Adobe MAX 2007 conference. Actually, I am presenting a session at the conference am and a little nervous about the whole experience. I still have two days to prepare however which makes me feel a little better?

I have had some time to do some sightseeing as well though. Yesterday I made it out to the museum of Science and Industry to see the German submarine U-505. Very cool! I then headed downtown with a co-worker to check out Navy Pier, the John Hancock observatory and the Magnificent Mile. We also managed to find some great steak for dinner and then ended the night at a Jazz Club. All in all a great day.

As for today my plan is to head back downtown to check out more of the architecture and maybe get some shopping done. Then it will be back to the conference but not before I squeeze in some time for a quick swim at the hotel.

That's all from Chicago for now.

B is for Butterfly

It is hard to believe Avery is already 8 weeks old!  She has already grown up so much.

Now that summer is coming to a close our lives seem to be getting slightly back to normal.  We just got back from a week long trip to the Toronto area and did lots of visiting with Avery.  Shannon is already a pro at being a Mom and is letting me know everything she has learned.  For me, balancing work and home time has been a challenge but I am slowly figuring out what works best so I can spend as much time with our little Avery as possible.  I love watching her change as every day goes by and look forward to what the next day might bring.

Can't get enough of Avery?

If so I've added a new link over on the left hand side just for you called Avery.  This link will take you directly to the Flickr page I've set up and will keep adding new photos to as they become available.

It's a girl!!!

After waiting for 40 weeks and 1 day Avery Margareth Rumsey finally entered the world at 5:54 pm on Thursday July 12, 2007 weighing a healthy 8 lbs, 13 oz.  While she made Shannon's pregnancy quite uncomplicated, Avery made up for it by putting Shannon through 16 hours of labour.  In the end all the hard work was worth it though as we are now the proud parents of a beautiful baby girl who one day will go on to do great things.

Is today the day?

40 weeks

How big will she be?
What will she look like?
What will her name be?

These are all questions that will just have to wait a little longer to be answered.

Two weeks for the price of one!

Well time is just racing by as the big day keeps getting closer and closer.  Time has been flying by so much that I missed adding last week's picture so this week you get two!!

Week 36

I finally managed to find the pine boxes I was looking for at IKEA.  I picked up three last week and have kept myself busy priming them white.  On Friday we picked up paint for the boxes so hopefully I'll have them completed by the end of the week.  We ended up getting cream and green for the boxes.  Two will probably end of being cream and one will be green.  Hopefully they turn out OK.

Shannon also had a baby shower this weekend in Ottawa.  More on that in my next post.

Week 34 and still growing

That's right only 6 weeks left! We were in Oakville last weekend for Shannon's baby shower. I didn't attend but from what I heard it was very nice. I am happy so many people wanted to send warm wishes our way.

The nursery is still coming along nicely. I still want to get some boxes to hold toys and stuffed animals. I am looking for some pine boxes that I can paint but so far have had no luck. Anyone have any suggestions? Other than that all that is left to do is hang some pictures on the wall.

OSSC Intermediate Ball Hockey final

My ball hockey team played in the championship game for the season last week and we won, making us 12-0 for the seaon!!!

The game was filmed (partly by Shannon), and our Goalie (Graham) put together a little montage and placed it on YouTube for the whole world to see.

Shannon at 26 weeks in Florida

P1010048.JPG
Originally uploaded by Photo Penguin.

With only days to go before the beginning of the third trimester Shannon and I headed down to Deerfield Beach in Florida with the rest of my family over the Easter holiday. This much needed mini-vacation involved lots of relaxing on the beach or by the pool under the 25 degree Florida sun. This trip was also our last before the baby arrives which is why we started calling it our "babymoon".

This picture was taken on our last day in Florida on Deerfield Beach which also marked the last day of Shannon's second trimester. Less than three months to go now!

If you want to view all photos I've posted of Shannon's pregnancy be sure to check out the photo set I have created on Flickr. I will keep adding photos to this set right up to the due date and beyond.

Goodbye Florida

It was bound to happen eventually.  Our short time in Florida has already come to an end.  It is now early Wednesday morning and I am at the airport waiting for my flight to Chicago.  We all had a great time over the past six days though.  Even though it is raining here now we were lucky enough to have hot and sunny weather all weekend with which to lay on the beach and sit by the pool with.  Anyway, my flight is about to board so I better go for now.

We've made it to Florida!

We arrived in Florida yesterday for a mini vacation over the Easter long weekend. I got up extra early this morning to go SCUBA diving. Here is one of the photos I took while diving. We have now checked into our beachfront hotel for the next three days. They have Internet here so I will make sure to post some more pictures soon that aren't just fish.

Shannon at 24 weeks

Week by week Shannon keeps getting a little bit bigger. Ziggy has also been quite active lately so I have got to feel lots of little kicks.

Emma is testing out the new stroller

The other day I went out and made the first big purchase for the baby...a new stroller! It is a Graco Quattro Tour Deluxe and we got it from Sears (on sale too!). After putting it together it didn't take too long for Emma to join in and volunteer to help test it out.

Check out the belly at 23 weeks

Another week has gone by and Shannon's belly is a little bit bigger again. There has definately been lots of growth in the past few weeks. According to Shannon the baby has also been quite active and I actually got to feel the baby kick a lot last night. I felt a wave of light bumps across my hand. Very neat.

Other than that there isn't too much news to report. We did re-arrange the bedroom that will eventually become the nursery in anticipation of the arrival. I have also been keeping up on my parenting reading so I'll hopefully have some clue on what to do once the baby arrives.

We've made it to 22 weeks

Here is a picture of Shannon taken at the beginning of her 22nd week.  She keeps getting larger and more beautiful by the day.  We've also been looking at more baby items lately which is exciting since it means the big day is getting closer week by week.  We were also at Sears and Toys R Us over the weekend and started putting together a registry.  This was a slow process since we still don't really know what we need yet.

21 weeks...It's a girl!?!

The weeks seem to keep zipping by.  Here is a picture of Shannon in her 21st week.  The belly is finally starting to get bigger.

We also had our second ultrasound but were unable to get conclusive evidence on whether the baby is a girl or a boy.  The ultrasound technician did say they "thought" it was a girl however which is also the consensus amongst most people we know.  Hopefully we'll be able to get another ultrasound in a few weeks for more proof.  If not we'll just have to wait and be suprised.

20 weeks...

Shannon is now at the half way point.  In twenty more weeks we will be proud new parents.  We have finally started to look around at furniture and accessories for the baby but have yet to buy anything major.  So far we've been to the Bay, Sears and Toys 'r Us.

Already 15 weeks pregnant

With the New Year upon us Shannon is already 15 weeks pregnant which means she is already almost half way to having a baby!

As you can see a bump is starting to show and supposedly there will be a lot more growth in the next few weeks.  We even went to our first pre-natal class tonight which was quite interesting.  Since we really don't know anyone else that has been or is pregnant it was nice to meet other people our age going through the same thing.  The classes are offered by the city and go on for the next five weeks.  They cover many aspects of having a baby including pregancy, labour, parenting and baby's health.  Once we go to a few more classes I will provide an update on how effective I think they are.

Coming soon in 2007...

As I mentioned before a lot has been going on at planetrumsey.  Most importantly, we have a new addition coming to planetrumey in 2007 and it is only a few more months away.  Shannon and I are having a baby and have already made it through the first trimester!

The expected arrival of the new baby Rumsey is July 11, 2007.

A few weeks ago was the first ultrasound at about 12.5 weeks.  This was are first glimpse at the new baby and a check to make sure everything was progressing as it should.

Here is the first official picture of baby Rumsey (aka Ziggy).

The next ultrasound will be around the 20 week mark (half way..eeek!) and should be when we can determine the sex.

No updates doesn't mean no news

You may have noticed that I haven't posted anything new on this site for quite a few months now.  There are several reasons for this but rest assured there is still a lot going on in planetrumsey.  Now that it is 2007 and there is no turning back my resolution is to make more frequent updates.  Stay tuned.

Anthony
