Costa Rica Adventure: Day 1

It was an early start this morning. We were out the door just after 6:00 am in order to get dropped off at the Toronto airport by 7:00 am. Happily it was a pretty uneventful travel day. Check in, security and boarding all went smoothly. There was even enough of time to get fueled up with Starbucks and Timmy’s.

Five hours later we were in San Jose, Costa Rica! 🇨🇷

Getting through the airport was pretty easy. Immigration at the San Jose has recently gone paperless which made the process much quicker. What ended up taking the longest time (over an hour) was waiting to obtain a Costa Rica SIM card. Since we are driving ourselves I really wanted a local SIM in order to have data for Waze as well being able to keep in touch with home. For $10 US you can get the SIM card along with 2GB which should be plenty for our two weeks here. Unfortunately everyone else had the same idea, plus a large family in front of me wanting to get 6 cards meant it was a very loooong wait before it was my turn. Luckily, the kids entertained themselves singing show tunes with choreography.

Anyway, enough about the airport. Eventually, we were on our way to Adventure Inn near the airport for our first night. By now it had started raining but that wasn’t enough to stop the girls and myself for jumping into the pool and hot tub. I must admit that Avery and Hannah lasted much longer than me.

Our rental car for the rest of our time in Costa Rica was also delivered to the hotel so we are now set for our early departure tomorrow morning. Our ultimate goal is La Fortuna but there are a few hikes we want to make on the way plus the weather is generally nicer in the morning.

That pretty much sums up day one.  Bye until next time!
